Brown County Playhouse
newspaper clippings:
Karl Martz (center) dressed for a performance in the Brown County Theatre, 1941, directed by Joseph A. Hayes. Marie Poling (left) was the operator of the Nashville IN telephone exchange. Mabel Calvin (right) was the daughter of the owner of the hardware store in Nashville.

In 1941, the stage was outdoors, and the audience "sat under the stars" as recalled by Becky. The first Brown County Playhouse was built by Jack Rogers in 1949.

Marie Poling sometimes volunteered to babysit Karl and Becky's sons Eric and Brian while she operated the telephone exchange, when they were unable to make other arrangements.
