In 1952, Karl Martz was about seven years into his faculty position teaching studio ceramic art and ceramic art history at Indiana University, in the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts, a position that he held until his retirement in 1977. In 1952, he still held the rank of Instructor, not being promoted to Assistant Professor until 1953-54. His salary for that academic year was $5,000, paid in ten installments.
